Soil Yourself is a premium, compost-free dry substrate blend by The Bearded Plantaholic. Each £14 bag contains 1.15kg of carefully chosen ingredients, with no compost added to bulk out the packet.
We bring the good stuff; you add the compost. Tailor the finished mix to your plant, pot and growing conditions instead of settling for one recipe for every plant.

The premium part is what goes into the bag.
Pine bark, sphagnum moss, perlite, vermiculite, worm castings, horticultural grit, LECA, mycorrhizal fungi and seaweed.
This is a dry blend of ingredients chosen to build your substrate — not a ready-made compost mix. Chunky components provide structure, while moisture-holding ingredients help you tune the finished mix.
No compost is added to bulk out the packet. You add your own, so you stay in control of the balance. A full 1.15kg of the good stuff. £14 per bag.

Start with one full 1.15kg bag of Soil Yourself. Add 200g compost and mix thoroughly. Add more gradually if you need a more moisture-retentive mix.
200g compost — seriously chunky. A starting point for many Anthuriums and other chunk lovers.
500g compost — a chunky all-rounder for many houseplants.
Up to 1kg compost — more moisture retention for many Monstera, Philodendron and Syngonium.
Do not exceed 1kg compost per bag. These are starting points, not one-size-fits-all rules. Adjust for your plant, pot and conditions, and use a pot with drainage.
Give it the Scrunch Test.
Grab a handful of your finished mix. Squeeze it, then open your hand.
If it falls apart, you’re golden. If it stays together, the mix is too dense — add more Soil Yourself and test again.
KEEP IT FRESH
Top dress with a large handful of worm castings every 6–8 months. Check moisture before watering and adjust your care to the plant and its conditions.
GOOD TO KNOW
Compost is not included. Store cool and dry, keep sealed, avoid breathing dust and wash hands after use. For horticultural use only. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
