Anthurium peltigerum
This is not a polite anthurium.
This is a statement.
Anthurium peltigerum is all about texture and posture. Thick, shield-like leaves with deep veining, a surface that looks almost sculpted rather than grown. It feels ancient. Purposeful. Like a plant that knows exactly what it is and has no interest in impressing everyone.
This is one for people who are bored of shiny, heart-shaped leaves and want something with weight and presence. It sits quietly and confidently, getting better with time rather than shouting for attention when it’s young.
Despite how serious it looks, it’s not a nightmare to live with. Give it bright, indirect light, warmth, and a chunky, well-aerated mix and it will reward you slowly and properly. This is not fast gratification. This is a long-term relationship plant.
Why it’s special
The peltate leaf attachment gives it that shield-like form, and the heavy texture sets it apart from most commonly sold anthuriums. It feels closer to something you’d expect in a private collection than a shop shelf.
Good to know
This is an indoor houseplant that prefers consistency. Warmth, humidity, and patience go a long way. If you already keep anthuriums successfully, this one will feel like a natural step up rather than a gamble.
If you want a rare anthurium that doesn’t look like everything else, and you appreciate plants that age into themselves rather than peak early, Anthurium peltigerum earns its space.
Quiet. Architectural. Serious plant energy.
Anthurium peltigerum - 12cm/40-55cm
The following aroid mix I would like to share with you is working well for my Anthurium:
- leca (15%)
- Orchid Bark (20%)
- Perlite (25%)
- Horticultural grit (20%)
- Worm Castings (15%)
- Compost (5%)
Water thoroughly when watering to mimic tropical jungle conditions. It is best practice to keep the soil humid but never soggy.
