Hoya linearis – The Cascading Dream Plant
Say hello to Hoya linearis, the free-spirited rebel of the Hoya world. While its chunky-leaved cousins flex with glossy structure, this one brings soft, silver-green tendrils that trail like a botanical waterfall. Light, graceful, and strangely hypnotic, it adds movement and magic to any indoor jungle.
Native to the cool, misty regions of the Himalayas, linearis doesn’t just look like a daydream – it smells like one too. Mature plants reward patience with clusters of star-shaped white flowers that release a sweet, honeyed fragrance. Yes, she blooms. And yes, it’s utterly worth the wait.
Care Tips – Because Even Wild Things Need the Right Conditions:
Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. A spot near a window (but out of harsh sun) is ideal.
Watering: Allow the top half of the soil to dry out before watering. It prefers a consistent rhythm, not wild swings between drought and drenching.
Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity – the more moisture in the air, the lusher it’ll look. Consider grouping with other plants or placing near a humidifier if your home is on the drier side.
Feeding: A diluted, balanced fertiliser during the growing season keeps it thriving. Once a month is plenty.
Soil: Think light and airy – use a free-draining mix with orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir or peat-free compost.
Low maintenance, high impact, and totally unlike your average trailing houseplant – Hoya linearis is for the collectors, the dreamers, and anyone looking to add a little wild beauty to their space.
Hoya linearis - 12cm/40-60cm
The following aroid mix I would like to share with you is working well for my Hoya:
- Potting Soil (30%)
- Orchid Bark (30%)
- Perlite (30%)
- Charcoal (5%)
- Worm Castings (5%)
Water thoroughly when watering to mimic tropical jungle conditions. It is best practice to keep the soil humid but never soggy.
