Monstera ‘Burle Marx Flame’ does not fenestrate politely.
It ignites.
Unlike standard Monstera deliciosa, this rare Brazilian form produces elongated, narrow leaves that split deeply and irregularly from the margins inward, creating a flame like silhouette as the plant matures. Early leaves may appear simple and understated. Then the cuts begin. And they do not stop halfway.
The result is dramatic negative space. Long, architectural blades carved into ribbons, each mature leaf looking more sculptural than the last.
Collectors pursue Monstera ‘Burle Marx Flame’ because:
• The leaf shape is entirely distinct from common Monstera
• Deep marginal splits create a true flame form
• Mature specimens are highly architectural
• It remains rare and slow to scale in production
This is not a fast plant. Juvenile growth can be deceptively simple, leading the impatient to underestimate it. Given strong light and vertical support, however, it transforms. As it climbs, the leaves lengthen and the splits intensify.
Light is critical. Bright, indirect light encourages stronger fenestration and tighter internodes. Too little light produces longer spacing and weaker form. Avoid harsh direct sun which can scorch the foliage.
Water thoroughly when the top portion of the soil begins to dry. Use a chunky, well draining aroid mix with bark and perlite or pumice to keep roots oxygenated. Overwatering slows growth and risks rot.
Humidity supports larger, cleaner leaf development, though it adapts well to good indoor UK conditions if warmth and light are consistent.
Growth rate is moderate once established, slower than common Monstera deliciosa but far more rewarding in form.
Monstera 'Burle Marx Flame' - 15 cm/65-70 cm
The following aroid mix I would like to share with you is working well for my Monstera:
- Potting Soil (30%)
- Orchid Bark (30%)
- Perlite (30%)
- Charcoal (5%)
- Worm Castings (5%)
Water thoroughly when watering to mimic tropical jungle conditions. It is best practice to keep the soil humid but never soggy.
