Monstera deliciosa ‘Aurea Variegata’
This is what happens when a Monstera stops being green… and starts glowing.
Not white like an Albo.
Not speckled like a Thai.
This is gold.
Proper gold.
The variegation comes through in warm yellows, lime tones, sometimes deep honey colours… and as the leaf matures, it deepens. Warms up. Gets richer.
It doesn’t look delicate.
It looks expensive.
Why this one hits
There are a lot of variegated Monsteras now.
But Aurea sits in its own lane.
Less common than Thai
More unpredictable than Albo
More dramatic when it hits properly
Some leaves come out lightly marbled…
some go heavy…
some look like they’ve been dipped in gold halfway through growth.
And when you get a strong one…
It doesn’t just look nice.
It looks ridiculous.
What you’re actually dealing with
This is a variegated mutation of Monstera deliciosa, caused by reduced chlorophyll in parts of the leaf.
Which means:
Slower growth
Higher demand for good light
Variegation that can be unstable
And here’s the important bit…
Not every leaf will be perfect.
That’s part of the game.
But when it is perfect…
it’s one of the best-looking Monsteras you can own.
Care (this is where people either unlock it… or waste it)
Light is everything.
Bright, indirect, consistent.
Better light = stronger variegation
Poor light = green leaves, weak expression
Watering is standard Monstera rhythm:
Let the top layer dry… then water properly.
And give it something to climb.
This plant doesn’t peak sat in a pot.
It peaks when it’s climbing and maturing.
The honest bit
This is not a beginner plant.
Not because it’s hard…
but because it’s unforgiving of laziness.
Bad light? It dulls.
Overwater? It sulks.
Inconsistent care? It slows right down.
But get it right…
And it becomes one of the best plants in your entire collection.
Who this is for
If you’ve already got:
Albo
Thai
A decent jungle going
…and you want something that feels like a step up…
This is it.
This is collector-level Monstera without going into full madness territory.
Monstera deliciosa Aurea Variegata is a rare variegated houseplant with golden-yellow marbling on large fenestrated leaves. It thrives in bright indirect light with well-draining soil and climbing support, making it ideal for collectors and indoor jungle spaces.
Monstera deliciosa 'Aurea variegata' - 17cm/35-40cm
The following aroid mix I would like to share with you is working well for my Monstera:
- Potting Soil (30%)
- Orchid Bark (30%)
- Perlite (30%)
- Charcoal (5%)
- Worm Castings (5%)
Water thoroughly when watering to mimic tropical jungle conditions. It is best practice to keep the soil humid but never soggy.
