Dieffenbachia ‘Big Ben’

The Dieffenbachia That Doesn’t Do Subtle

Some houseplants quietly fill a corner.

Dieffenbachia ‘Big Ben’ walks in like it owns the place.

This impressive cultivar takes everything people love about dumb canes and turns the volume up. Massive paddle-shaped leaves are splashed with creamy whites, fresh greens and deep emerald margins, creating a lush tropical look that instantly fills a space. As it matures, the foliage becomes even larger, giving the plant a bold, architectural presence that’s impossible to ignore.

Despite its exotic appearance, it’s refreshingly easy-going. Whether you’re just starting your jungle or adding another statement plant to an already overflowing collection, Big Ben rewards very little effort with a whole lot of impact.

It’s big, it’s beautiful and it definitely didn’t get its name by accident.

Plant Stats:

Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal, although it’ll tolerate lower light levels.

Water: Allow the top few centimetres of compost to dry before watering again.

Humidity: Happy in average household humidity but appreciates a little extra.

Soil: A rich, free-draining houseplant mix.

Why It’s Worth a Spot in Your Jungle:

Huge, beautifully variegated foliage with incredible tropical appeal.

Fast-growing and wonderfully rewarding to grow.

Far easier to care for than its exotic appearance suggests.

Makes an instant statement in any room without demanding constant attention.

Limited availability. If you’re looking for a plant that brings maximum jungle with minimum fuss, Dieffenbachia ‘Big Ben’ is more than up to the job.
