Rhaphidophora elliptica ‘Aurea’ is a rare variegated climbing aroid prized for its bold golden-yellow marbling across glossy green foliage. The genus Rhaphidophora originates from tropical forests across Southeast Asia where these plants climb trees using aerial roots.
In their natural habitat they grow in warm, humid environments beneath forest canopies where light is filtered through layers of vegetation. This explains why they thrive indoors in bright indirect light rather than direct sun.
The aurea variegation occurs when sections of the leaf lack chlorophyll, producing vibrant yellow patterns that make every leaf unique.
Interesting fact: Rhaphidophora species are closely related to Monsteras but often produce different leaf shapes and growth habits, making them highly desirable among collectors.
Care tips
Bright indirect light maintains strong variegation.
Provide a moss pole or plank to encourage climbing growth.
Keep soil lightly moist with excellent drainage.

The following aroid mix I would like to share with you is working well for my Philodendron:
- Potting Soil (30%)
- Orchid Bark (30%)
- Perlite (30%)
- Charcoal (5%)
- Worm Castings (5%)
Water thoroughly when watering to mimic tropical jungle conditions. It is best practice to keep the soil humid but never soggy.
