Begonia ‘Snowcap’

Like Someone Dusted the Jungle with Snow

Some plants bloom for attention.

Begonia ‘Snowcap’ doesn’t need flowers to stop you in your tracks.

Its rich green leaves are generously sprinkled with crisp white speckles, as though someone wandered through the jungle with a paintbrush loaded with fresh snow. Every leaf carries its own unique pattern, creating a plant that looks almost too artistic to have happened by accident.

Like many ornamental begonias, its ancestry lies within the humid tropical forests of South America, where begonias thrive beneath dense canopies in warm, sheltered conditions. They’re masters of making the most of filtered light, evolving striking foliage that brightens the dim forest floor long before flowers ever enter the conversation.

shelves, desks, terrariums or anywhere that could use a splash of living artwork without sacrificing half the room. The contrast between the dark foliage and bright speckling gives it year-round interest, while clusters of delicate flowers may occasionally appear to add an unexpected encore.

It prefers bright, indirect light, a free-draining mix and lightly moist compost that never becomes waterlogged. A little humidity goes a long way, rewarding you with lush growth and beautifully marked new leaves. Treat it gently, avoid soaking the foliage and it’ll happily keep producing its snowy display.

Some plants whisper.

Some shout.

Begonia ‘Snowcap’ quietly catches your eye… then refuses to let it go.
