Philodendron 'Ring of Fire' - 6cm pot / 15cm

Philodendron 'Ring of Fire' looks like someone set a leaf collection alight and somehow improved it. Jagged edges, long blades and a shifting mix of green, cream and warm tones. The name has very much earned its place.

The serrated outline is half the fun. Even before you get to the colour, each leaf has this beautifully unruly shape. Then a fresh one opens with its own balance of markings, and the plant gives you another excuse to stand there staring.

This is a cultivated Philodendron hybrid, from a genus rooted in the tropical Americas. Its appeal comes from bringing that aroid growth and texture together with a particularly theatrical colour palette. Leaf tones change as growth matures, so a Ring of Fire is a moving display rather than a fixed arrangement.

I'd put it against a darker backdrop where the pale sections and toothed edges can really show off. Give it bright filtered light and a warm, comfortable spot, then follow each new leaf as it changes.

If your jungle is looking a little too well-behaved, this should help. A very tempting little firestarter to adopt.
