Philodendron Florida Beauty × P. mayoi is the sort of plant that makes collectors go strangely quiet for a moment before immediately checking their bank balance.
An utterly ridiculous hybrid combining the dramatic genetics of Philodendron Florida Beauty with the wild prehistoric structure of Philodendron mayoi.
And honestly?
It looks like the rainforest got carried away.
This hybrid brings together some of the most desirable traits in the aroid world:
• Deeply fingered and elongated foliage
• Explosive climbing growth
• Intense mature leaf transformation
• Wild tropical structure
• And the potential for stunning marbling and variegated characteristics inherited through Florida Beauty lineage
Philodendron mayoi itself originates from Brazil and is famous for its savage skeletal leaf shape that resembles jungle antlers or tropical claws. When crossed with Florida Beauty, the result becomes even more architectural, elegant and dramatic.
Every new leaf feels unpredictable.
Some emerge narrow and deeply sculpted.
Others explode outward looking like they belong in a prehistoric rainforest documentary narrated by David Attenborough whilst thunder rolls in the background.
As the plant matures and climbs, the foliage becomes increasingly dramatic, producing huge tropical leaves with movement and structure that completely dominate a space.
This is not a “sit quietly on a shelf” kind of plant.
This is a centrepiece.
A proper collector specimen.
Despite looking outrageously exotic, it’s actually relatively straightforward to care for if you understand climbing Philodendrons.
Give it:
• Bright indirect light
• A chunky airy aroid mix
• Warmth and moderate humidity
• A moss pole or support to climb
• And avoid overwatering
The reward is one of the most visually insane tropical hybrids you can grow indoors.
Please note:
Due to the wonderfully chaotic nature of hybrid genetics, each plant will display slightly different leaf shape, lobing, variegation and growth patterns making every specimen beautifully unique.
