Epipremnum giganteum ‘Variegata’

The Gentle Giant of the Aroid World

Some climbers creep.

Epipremnum giganteum ‘Variegata’ conquers.

This spectacular rarity takes everything that makes Epipremnum giganteum legendary and elevates it with breathtaking splashes of creamy white, buttery yellow and vibrant green. Every leaf is unique, painted with unpredictable variegation that ensures no two plants are ever quite the same. It’s bold enough to stop people in their tracks, yet elegant enough to suit any jungle-inspired collection.

Found naturally throughout the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia and New Guinea, Epipremnum giganteum spends its life climbing towering trees, anchoring itself with powerful aerial roots as it races towards the canopy. Given the opportunity to climb, its leaves become progressively larger and more impressive, eventually transforming into enormous sheets of glossy foliage that live up to the species’ name.

Unlike many variegated plants that seem to have signed a contract promising endless drama, this one balances beauty with vigour. Its marbled foliage catches the light beautifully, while its naturally robust growth makes it a rewarding plant to watch mature. A moss pole or wooden plank will encourage larger leaves and help it display its true rainforest character.

Provide bright, indirect light to maintain crisp variegation, plant it in a chunky, free-draining aroid mix and water once the compost begins to dry. Warm temperatures, good humidity and something sturdy to climb will keep it pushing out increasingly impressive foliage throughout the growing season.

Some plants decorate a room.

Epipremnum giganteum ‘Variegata’ transforms it.

Given time, it doesn’t just grow into your home.

It grows into the very reason people can’t stop looking around it.

  • The following aroid mix I would like to share with you is working well for my Epipremnum:

    • Potting Soil (30%)
    • Orchid Bark (30%)
    • Perlite (30%)
    • Charcoal (5%)
    • Worm Castings (5%)

Water thoroughly when watering to mimic tropical jungle conditions. It is best practice to keep the soil humid but never soggy.
