THE BEARDED PLANTAHOLIC · NEW ARRIVALS

New leaves. New obsessions. Your next “just one more”.

Right, tiny phone people. Put the kettle on and come and have a look at this lot. We’ve got star-speckled Monstera, Philodendrons dressed in caramel, Anthuriums with veins you could lose an afternoon staring at, and bananas with absolutely no respect for your furniture. I bloody love the moment a new leaf opens. All that colour and texture, rolled up in a little green promise. If you’ve ever crouched beside a pot whispering “go on, you beauty”, you’re in the right place.

Fancy taking one home? They’re in the online shop now. You don’t have to wait for me to appear on Instagram, shout a claim into the comments or catch a live sale between making dinner and putting the kids to bed. Have a proper nose through the photos, check the listing and order when it suits you. The live-sale chaos will still be there when you fancy it.

And if we haven’t met yet, hello, you lovely human. I’m Jonny, The Bearded Plantaholic, and the Plantaholic Haven in Malvern, Worcestershire is where this leafy obsession lives. Let me walk you through the new arrivals like you’ve popped into the shop: what I love about them, how big they actually are and what they need from you. Because falling in love with a leaf is easy. Finding it a home where it can thrive is the bit that matters.

Find the right plant for your home

  • A smaller budget: start with Dieffenbachia ‘Crocodile’ at £6.99, Thai Constellation at £17.99, or Syngonium ‘Mottled’ and Dragon Scale Mint Variegata at £19.99.

  • A variegated climber: compare the Monstera, Philodendron, Scindapsus and Rhaphidophora below.

  • A warm, humid collection: look closely at the Anthuriums, Alocasias, spotted Begonia and Tectaria fern.

  • A bright room with space: the three Musa choices bring a much bolder silhouette.

Small beginnings, brilliant leaves

You don’t need a collector’s budget to get that little flutter when you see a beautiful leaf. Some of the loveliest things in this drop start in tiny pots. There’s something properly satisfying about growing a baby plant on and being there for every new leaf. Just pick one whose needs fit your home. A bargain still needs looking after, brother.

Dieffenbachia 'Crocodile'

Dieffenbachia 'Crocodile' - 6cm pot / 18cm
£6.99
Buy Now

£6.99 · 6cm pot / 18cm

Small pot. Big crocodile energy.

Look at this little Crocodile. Long, mottled green leaves, loads of character and absolutely no intention of biting your ankle. At £6.99, it’s the lowest-priced plant in this collection, in a 6cm pot and approximately 18cm tall. I love a small plant that gives you something interesting to look at straight away. Give it time and good care and that little starting pot can become a much bolder upright plant.

Keeping it happy: Choose a warm room with bright, filtered light. Water when the surface begins to dry and let the pot drain. Its sap and foliage are irritating, so keep it away from pets and children who chew plants, and wear gloves when cutting it.

Why choose this one? For someone who wants an affordable, characterful plant to grow on.

Monstera 'Thai Constellation'

Monstera 'Thai Constellation' - 6cm pot / 25cm
£17.99
Buy Now

£17.99 · 6cm pot / 25cm

Your own little constellation.

A little constellation in a pot. How lovely is that? Those creamy flecks and pale patches are what make a Thai Constellation so recognisable, and this £17.99 baby in a 6cm pot lets you enjoy the growing-up bit. Approximately 25cm tall now, with bigger leaves and that classic Monstera shape to work towards as it matures. Don’t confuse “baby” with “stays tiny”. Your shelf has been warned.

Keeping it happy: Give it bright, indirect light, an airy mix and a pot with drainage. Let the upper mix start drying before watering. Add climbing support as it develops; larger split leaves depend on maturity and growing conditions.

Why choose this one? For patient growers who want the journey as much as the finished plant.

Syngonium 'Mottled'

Syngonium 'Mottled' - 12cm pot / 30cm
£19.99
Buy Now

£19.99 · 12cm pot / 30cm

A leafy paint-splatter moment.

This is a proper “hang on, let me see that leaf” plant. Arrow-shaped foliage with lighter and darker mottling, and every new leaf doing its own thing. £19.99 gets you the 12cm pot, approximately 30cm tall, so it already has a bit of presence. I’d put it where you can look into the foliage and enjoy the markings. Give the little beauty some stage space instead of hiding it behind your biggest Monstera.

Keeping it happy: Bright, indirect light and an airy mix suit it. Allow the surface to dry slightly between waterings. Longer climbing stems can develop with age, so add support if you want an upright display.

Why choose this one? For a patterned shelf plant at £19.99, with room to grow.

Alocasia 'Dragon Scale Mint Variegata'

Alocasia 'Dragon Scale Mint Variegata' - 6cm pot / 15cm
£19.99
Buy Now

£19.99 · 6cm pot / 15cm

A baby dragon for your plant shelf.

A baby dragon. In your house. Without the insurance complications. That textured Dragon Scale foliage with minty flecks and pale patches is ridiculous in the best possible way. This is the £19.99 baby size: a 6cm pot, approximately 15cm tall. Get close and appreciate it. The pleasure is in the detail, then seeing what the next leaf brings. It is still an Alocasia, though, so bring your attention as well as your enthusiasm.

Keeping it happy: Keep it warm, with bright indirect light, humidity and gentle airflow. Check this small pot regularly: the root ball should not become bone dry or stay saturated. Adjust watering when growth slows in cooler, darker months.

Why choose this one? For someone who enjoys checking moisture and following every new leaf.

Monstera adansonii 'Variegata'

Monstera adansonii 'Variegata' - 6cm pot / 20cm
£26.99
Buy Now

£26.99 · 6cm pot / 20cm

The Swiss cheese vine, with extra cream.

All the Swiss-cheese charm, with a lovely splash of cream. This young adansonii has perforated leaves and a finer climbing outline than a chunky deliciosa. £26.99, a 6cm pot and approximately 20cm tall: a little vine with a whole growing journey ahead of it. I love the movement it brings beside bigger leaves. Give it something to climb as it develops and let it find its feet. Or roots. You know what I mean.

Keeping it happy: Provide bright, indirect light and an airy, freely draining mix. Let the upper layer begin drying before watering. Pale leaf portions are more delicate; aim for balanced, healthy growth rather than chasing an entirely white leaf.

Why choose this one? For a climbing display with a lighter, more delicate silhouette.

Meet the Monstera collection

Ah, Monstera. The plant that turns “I’ll just have one in the corner” into “do we really need that chair?” We’ve got minty washes, pale splashes and different leaf shapes to fall for. These are separate batches, so look at the photos and sizes before choosing. The name tells you the variety; the listing tells you what you’re bringing home.

Monstera deliciosa 'Mint'

Monstera deliciosa 'Mint' - 6cm pot / 17cm, photographed at The Bearded Plantaholic.

£29.99 · 6cm pot / 17cm

Mint obsession, starter size.

Minty leaves without needing to clear half the lounge. Yet. This deliciosa ‘Mint’ is £29.99 in a 6cm nursery pot, approximately 17cm tall including the pot. The pale washes and deeper green mottling are what pull you in, but watching it grow is where the attachment happens. Compare its actual listing with the 8cm and 12cm batches below. Same Mint obsession, different starting plants. Pot size alone won’t tell you which markings you’ll get.

Keeping it happy: Choose bright, filtered light, warm conditions and an airy root mix. Water after the upper layer starts to dry, then drain well. Give it support as it grows; mature splits and holes take time.

Why choose this one? For a lower-cost entry into this drop’s Mint Monstera choices.

Monstera deliciosa 'White Monster'

Monstera deliciosa 'White Monster' - 6cm pot / 15cm
£34.99
Buy Now

£34.99 · 6cm pot / 15cm

A very small plant with a very big name.

Big name. Tiny pot. Plenty to get excited about. White Monster mixes pale, minty-white foliage with green markings and veins, and I love that contrast beside a darker leaf. This one is £34.99 in a 6cm pot, approximately 15cm tall. You’re bringing home a youngster to grow with, so enjoy the changes as they happen. Every leaf doesn’t have to match the photo to be a beautiful leaf.

Keeping it happy: It needs excellent indirect light, warmth and an airy mix. Allow the top to start drying between drinks. Pale areas can mark or brown more readily, so protect them from scorching sun and prioritise healthy roots.

Why choose this one? For growers who enjoy pale foliage and the patience of a baby Monstera.

Monstera 'Mint'

Monstera 'Mint' - 8cm pot / 15cm, photographed at The Bearded Plantaholic.

£54.99 · 8cm pot / 15cm

Mint detail, another starting point.

Another Mint to stare at? Go on then. This is the separate 8cm-pot batch at £54.99, approximately 15cm tall including the pot. Pale washes, deeper patches and those finer markings make it worth slowing down for. I’d sit it beside darker foliage and let those softer greens show off. Compare the listings and choose the plant you actually love. An 8cm pot is still a young plant, not a rainforest arriving by courier.

Keeping it happy: Give it a bright position protected from harsh sun, a warm room and an airy root zone. Check the upper mix before watering and plan for climbing support as it grows. Individual colour balance varies.

Why choose this one? For someone comparing the current Mint batches before choosing their favourite.

Monstera 'Mint'

£129.99 · 12cm pot / 40–50cm

More presence from the start.

If you want a Mint with a bit more presence from day one, here’s your beauty. This batch is £129.99 in a 12cm pot, approximately 40–50cm tall including the pot. That creamy mint colouring catches your eye before the plant has even grown into its more mature foliage. I love watching a little plant develop, but I completely understand wanting something you can actually see across the room. Check the listing’s photos carefully. Bigger pot, individual plant, its own lovely markings.

Monstera Mint in a 12cm nursery pot, showing pale mint variegation on its leaves at The Bearded Plantaholic.

Keeping it happy: Choose a bright spot with protection from scorching sun, use an airy mix and let the upper layer begin drying between waterings. Support and suitable conditions help the plant develop larger leaves over time.

Why choose this one? For a Mint Monstera with more immediate visual presence.

Monstera adansonii laniata 'Mint'

Monstera adansonii laniata 'Mint' - 9cm pot / 20cm, photographed at The Bearded Plantaholic.

£54.99 · 9cm pot / 20cm

Mint, with a different leaf shape.

More Mint. Different shape. Yes, these things matter when you’re a plant person. This adansonii laniata has elongated foliage with pale washes and mottling, and more mature growth can develop those lovely perforations. £54.99, a 9cm pot and approximately 20cm tall. It brings a finer climbing outline beside the broad deliciosa leaves. Give it a good spot and support as it grows, then enjoy each new leaf showing you a bit more of what it can do.

Keeping it happy: Offer bright, indirect light and support as the vine lengthens. An airy mix and watering as the upper layer starts to dry help avoid a constantly wet root zone. Keep pale leaves out of scorching sun.

Why choose this one? For the Monstera person who wants a distinct climbing form.

Monstera 'Devil Monster'

Monstera 'Devil Monster' - 9cm pot / 30cm, photographed at The Bearded Plantaholic.

£449.99 · 9cm pot / 30cm

Meet the Devil Monster.

Right. Devil Monster. The one that might make you put your tea down and read the listing twice. This is £449.99 for a young collector plant in a 9cm pot, approximately 30cm tall. That pale minty colouring and green detail are beautiful, but I want you to know exactly what you’re buying: a named collector youngster, with growing still ahead of it. Take your time. Ask questions. A plant at this price should be a purchase you feel good about, with the conditions ready to give it a proper home.

Keeping it happy: Give it a settled, warm position, bright indirect light, an airy aroid mix and careful watering. Offer climbing support as it grows. Protect pale foliage from harsh sun and let new leaves unfurl without handling them.

Why choose this one? For an experienced collector with the conditions and budget for a considered purchase.

Philodendrons with a warmer palette

This is for the people who inspect a new leaf before they’ve checked their messages. Cream, caramel, rosy tones and green, all changing as the foliage settles. Both of these are young plants. You get to watch the story unfold, which is a huge part of why I love them.

Philodendron 'Caramel Marble'

Philodendron 'Caramel Marble' - 6cm pot / 25cm
£39.99

£39.99 · 6cm pot / 25cm

Caramel tones. Zero nutritional value.

Caramel Marble. Honestly, look at those colours. Green, cream and warm caramel tones, changing as a new leaf opens and hardens. You get a little unfolding show rather than one fixed look, and that is what I love about it. This £39.99 youngster comes in a 6cm pot, approximately 25cm tall. Plenty of growing ahead, including a more dramatic leaf shape as it matures. If your collection is currently fifty shades of green, this is a lovely way to warm things up. Still not edible. I know the name is unhelpful.

Keeping it happy: Use bright, indirect light, warmth and a freely draining, airy mix. Let the surface dry slightly before watering, then drain thoroughly. New growth needs time to settle; neither an exact pattern nor a fixed colour balance is guaranteed.

Why choose this one? For growers who enjoy watching foliage change as it matures.

Philodendron 'Fire Phoenix'

Philodendron 'Fire Phoenix' - 6cm pot / 20cm
£39.99
Buy Now

£39.99 · 6cm pot / 20cm

For a collection that wants more colour.

Fire Phoenix brings those rosy, warm-toned new leaves alongside green and mottled areas. I love plants that make you look again a few days later and go, “hang on, you’ve changed”. A leaf can look quite different as it hardens, so give yourself time to enjoy the whole performance. £39.99, a 6cm pot and approximately 20cm tall: a colourful little starting plant with a lot of growing ahead. Put it somewhere you’ll actually notice its new growth. This one deserves more than a passing glance.

Keeping it happy: Keep it warm and brightly lit without strong sun baking the leaves. Use an airy mix and water after the surface begins drying. Feed during active growth according to the fertiliser label. Permanently pink foliage is not promised.

Why choose this one? For a warm, bright plant shelf that could use a little rosy drama.

Anthuriums: texture, velvet and collector crosses

Oh, Anthuriums. Those veins. That texture. The way a soft new leaf slowly becomes something you cannot quite believe a plant made. If you’ve ever stopped mid-sentence because you spotted one unfurling, welcome to your people. Give these beauties warmth, suitable moisture and humidity with airflow. Admiration is lovely; decent growing conditions are better.

Anthurium luxurians x radicans

£39.99 · 12cm pot / 25cm

Texture that deserves its own close-up.

Those leaves. Honestly. Luxurians x radicans has deeply puckered, glossy green foliage, with raised areas between the veins that catch the light beautifully. It doesn’t need pale variegation to make you stop and stare. £39.99 gets you a 12cm pot, approximately 25cm tall. I’d give it a place where you can get close and appreciate the texture, with room for new leaves to open. You can love a plant without poking every fresh leaf. I realise that requires some self-control.

Anthurium luxurians x radicans in a 12cm pot, photographed in the shop with textured green leaves.

Keeping it happy: Give it bright filtered light, warmth, humidity and gentle airflow. Keep moisture fairly even in an airy mix that drains freely. New foliage can change colour and texture as it hardens.

Why choose this one? For someone who loves sculptural green foliage and has a warm growing spot.

Anthurium 'Red Crystallinum'

£44.99 · 6cm pot / 25cm

A little velvet-leaf theatre.

Red Crystallinum is for the people who get excited about a leaf before it has even finished opening. Heart-shaped foliage, lovely contrasting veins and fresh leaves that may carry warmer reddish tones before settling into green. This is £44.99 in a 6cm pot, approximately 25cm tall. A little Anthurium to follow closely, from emerging leaf to fully hardened beauty. Enjoy that change. The red isn’t a permanent paint job; it’s part of a living plant doing its thing.

Anthurium Red Crystallinum in a 6cm pot, showing its contrasting leaf veins at The Bearded Plantaholic.

Keeping it happy: Keep it warm in bright, filtered light with humidity and airflow. An open root mix should hold some moisture while allowing excess water to drain. Leave tender leaves alone as they unfurl. Colour and vein pattern vary naturally.

Why choose this one? For a velvet Anthurium grower who enjoys the smallest details.

Anthurium 'Red Crystal Blush'

Anthurium 'Red Crystal Blush' - 12cm pot / 30–40cm
£69.99
Buy Now

£69.99 · 12cm pot / 30–40cm

Velvet foliage with a little more presence.

Red Crystal Blush has that heart-shaped outline and striking veining, with developing foliage that may bring bronze and reddish tones into the mix. It has a little more presence now: £69.99 in a 12cm pot, approximately 30–40cm tall. There’s still all the pleasure of watching a new leaf change as it settles. I’d give this one some breathing room and let those veins do the talking. Don’t wedge it between two enormous plants and then wonder why you never get to admire it.

Keeping it happy: Provide bright filtered light, warmth and humidity with gentle airflow. Water as the surface begins drying, using an airy mix that holds some moisture without becoming waterlogged. Protect soft new leaves and allow them space to expand.

Why choose this one? For an eye-catching feature in an established warm, humid collection.

Anthurium Red Spider x forgetii

Anthurium Red Spider x forgetii - 9cm pot / 30–40cm, photographed at The Bearded Plantaholic.

£104.99 · 9cm pot / 30–40cm

For the vein-pattern enthusiasts.

Vein-pattern people, come closer. Red Spider x forgetii has that long, heart-shaped outline and pronounced contrasting veins that make an Anthurium so absorbing to look at. This named cross is £104.99 in a 9cm pot, approximately 30–40cm tall. I love the individual character you get with crosses. They’re living plants, so proportions and colouring can vary. Give yours room to develop and enjoy finding out who it becomes. That’s a much better relationship than demanding a photocopy.

Keeping it happy: Choose a warm, settled position with bright filtered light and humidity balanced by airflow. Keep the root mix open and lightly moist, with free drainage. Give unfurling foliage room and resist helping it open; soft leaves damage easily.

Why choose this one? For Anthurium collectors who enjoy individual character and evolving foliage.

Anthurium DocBlock Briëlle® '16' × Briëlle® '16'

DocBlock Briëlle® ‘16’ × Briëlle® ‘16’. Take a breath after saying that lot. This is the named cross supplied on the £244.99 listing, in a 12cm nursery pot and approximately 25cm tall including the pot. Strong veins, a heart-shaped outline and that changing new growth give you plenty to get lost in. If parentage is your thing, have a proper read of the listing. I love the anticipation with a young Anthurium: what will the next leaf look like? Plants from a cross can vary, and that individual development is part of the fascination.

Keeping it happy: Consistency matters: warmth, filtered light, humidity and gentle airflow, with an open Anthurium mix that retains moisture without excluding air. Keep soft new leaves clear of neighbouring foliage and allow them to harden naturally.

Why choose this one? For the Anthurium enthusiast who reads the full name twice and smiles.

The close-up collection

Here are the ones for people who lean in. Marbling, sculpted surfaces, little spots and unusual leaf shapes. You don’t have to fill a room to make something beautiful happen in it. Give these plants the conditions they need and a place where you can actually see the details. Then allow yourself a few minutes to just look. We spend enough of the day rushing past things.

Scindapsus 'Halimoon'

Scindapsus 'Halimoon' - 9cm pot / 20cm
£119.99
Buy Now

£119.99 · 9cm pot / 20cm

Marbling for the close-up crowd.

Halimoon is a “just one more look” plant. Oval leaves with green and pale splashes, marbling and a different pattern as each new leaf arrives. This £119.99 plant is in a 9cm pot, approximately 20cm tall, so it’s a compact collector starting point. I’d keep it where I could watch the vine develop and appreciate each leaf, then add support as it lengthens. It isn’t arriving as a ready-made leafy curtain. The lovely bit is helping it get there.

Keeping it happy: Bright, gentle light and a warm, stable spot suit it. Let the upper mix dry slightly before watering thoroughly, then empty excess water from the outer pot. An airy mix, humidity and airflow help provide a balanced growing environment.

Why choose this one? For collectors who appreciate a slower look at every individual leaf.

Scindapsus treubii 'Albo'

Scindapsus treubii 'Albo' - 7cm pot / 20cm, photographed at The Bearded Plantaholic.

£124.99 · 7cm pot / 20cm

Cream-on-green contrast.

Cream against deep green. Such a lovely contrast. Treubii ‘Albo’ brings substantial, elongated leaves with pale patches, streaks and marbling that make you lean in for a better look. £124.99, a 7cm pot and approximately 20cm tall: a young collector plant with growing ahead of it. I’d sit it beside plain green foliage and let the contrast shine. Enjoy the markings it makes as it develops. It hasn’t signed a contract to produce the same white sector on every leaf.

Keeping it happy: Provide bright indirect light, warmth and an airy root mix. Allow the upper mix to dry slightly between drinks and drain thoroughly. Pale tissue can brown more readily, so keep it out of harsh sun and value the green parts too.

Why choose this one? For a Scindapsus collection that wants crisp pale contrast.

Scindapsus treubii 'Aurea'

Scindapsus treubii 'Aurea' - 7cm pot / 20cm, photographed at The Bearded Plantaholic.

£124.99 · 7cm pot / 20cm

The golden-toned treubii.

If Albo is crisp cream-and-green, Aurea brings the warmer glow. Golden and lime-toned variegation across those substantial, elongated treubii leaves. This is £124.99 in a 7cm pot, approximately 20cm tall. Compare the photos and go with the colouring that makes you stop scrolling. I love that two versions of a plant can pull you in for different reasons. Both are young plants to grow gradually, with their own changing patterns. No need to pretend a tiny pot is an instant jungle.

Keeping it happy: Choose a stable warm position with bright filtered light. Let the upper mix dry slightly before watering, and never leave the pot standing in excess water. An airy mix and support as the vine grows are useful foundations.

Why choose this one? For collectors drawn to golden foliage and subtle shifts in green.

Rhaphidophora elliptica 'Variegata'

Rhaphidophora elliptica 'Variegata' - 12cm pot / 20cm, photographed at The Bearded Plantaholic.

£124.99 · 12cm pot / 20cm

A different climbing aroid for the collection.

This Rhaphidophora is for the person who wants to have a closer look at something a little less familiar. Elongated foliage, deeper green and irregular pale or yellow-green areas, with a quieter outline beside all those dramatic Monstera splits. £124.99 gets you a 12cm pot, approximately 20cm tall. I love a collection with different shapes in it. Give this one support as it develops and enjoy its own colouring, rather than waiting for one exact half-moon leaf.

Keeping it happy: Provide bright filtered light, a warm position and an airy aroid mix. Water as the upper layer starts to dry and let excess drain. Add support as it develops; specific half-moon leaves or a particular colour balance are not guaranteed.

Why choose this one? For a collector looking beyond the more familiar variegated aroids.

Alocasia 'Silver Dragon Variegata'

Alocasia 'Silver Dragon Variegata' - 7cm pot / 15cm, photographed at The Bearded Plantaholic.

£89.99 · 7cm pot / 15cm

Small plant, sculpted foliage.

A little Silver Dragon with a lot going on. Texture, veins and irregular pale-to-yellow-green markings across that sculpted foliage. £89.99, a 7cm pot and approximately 15cm tall: this is a youngster for appreciating close up. I love how much detail an Alocasia can pack into one leaf. If you already enjoy the moisture checks and have a warm, suitable spot, this beauty gives you plenty to admire without immediately evicting everything else from the shelf.

Keeping it happy: Aim for warmth, bright filtered light, humidity and gentle airflow. Use an airy mix and keep the root zone lightly moist rather than swinging between drought and saturation. Pale areas may brown more readily, and individual markings vary.

Why choose this one? For an attentive Alocasia grower who has a stable, suitable spot ready.

Begonia amphioxus x malachosticta

£22.99 · 8cm pot / 17cm

Polka dots for your indoor jungle.

Look at this spotted little weirdo. Pointed, uneven leaves and reddish spotting give Begonia amphioxus x malachosticta a completely different feel from the usual aroid crowd. £22.99, an 8cm pot and approximately 17cm tall. I love the detail in a plant like this. Give it a spot where you can enjoy those markings instead of losing it behind a huge leaf. If you’ve got a warm, suitably humid setup with airflow, here’s a lovely bit of Begonia character for it.

Keeping it happy: A warm, humid position with filtered light and gentle airflow suits it. Keep an open mix lightly moist, let the surface begin drying before watering and avoid repeatedly wetting the leaves. A cabinet needs ventilation, not sealed, stagnant air.

Why choose this one? For someone with a suitable humid setup and a soft spot for patterned begonias.

Tectaria hilocarpa

£34.99 · 8cm pot / 17cm

The fern that changes the conversation.

A fern for anyone who thinks ferns all look the same. Tectaria hilocarpa has broad, elongated, textured fronds, mottled green colouring and tightly curled new growth. There’s such a lovely forest-floor feel to it. This one is £34.99 in an 8cm pot, approximately 17cm tall. I love bringing a different leaf structure into a collection. Keep it somewhere you can follow those new fronds, and be ready to pay attention to its moisture. A fern this lovely deserves better than a forgotten pot beside a radiator.

Keeping it happy: Give it gentle indirect light, warmth, humidity and airflow. Keep its well-drained mix lightly moist and avoid letting it dry out completely. A hot windowsill or spot next to a radiator is not the right home for it.

Why choose this one? For someone who enjoys regular moisture checks and unusual fern foliage.

Bananas with room-filling ambition

Right, banana people. This is where the leaves get broad and the available floor space gets reviewed. These Musa plants bring a lovely tropical presence, but they need light, warmth and room to grow. We’re buying them for their foliage here. Don’t order one expecting it to sort out breakfast.

Green banana leaves with those darker red-brown patches. Absolutely lovely. Zebrina is often called the blood banana, which sounds far more alarming than this beautiful bit of foliage deserves. £49.99 gets you a 17cm pot, approximately 55–75cm tall. It already has enough presence to make a bright room feel a bit more tropical. Give it space so you can enjoy the whole leaf. The markings can change as it develops; watching that happen is part of the pleasure.

Keeping it happy: Provide warmth and very bright light, introducing stronger sun gradually. Check water frequently during active growth, drain well and reduce watering as growth slows. Keep it frost free. Broad banana leaves can split naturally.

Why choose this one? For a bright room that needs a bold tropical silhouette.

Cream-striped banana drama.

Creamy stripes across a banana leaf. Come on. That is a lovely thing to have growing in your home. Florida Variegata is £59.99 in a 17cm pot, approximately 40–50cm tall. It’s a manageable starting size, with the potential to need considerably more room later. I’d give it a bright position where the whole outline can show off. Plan some space for new leaves now, before you find yourself negotiating with the bookcase.

Keeping it happy: Keep it warm and very bright, introducing stronger sunlight gradually to protect the pale foliage. Water and feed to suit active growth, with free drainage. It is a tender ornamental banana and needs frost protection. Natural leaf splits are normal.

Why choose this one? For someone ready to give a variegated banana both light and elbow room.

Broad variegated foliage may show pale and pinkish tones among the green, with colour varying between plants and conditions. Please measure the spot and the route into it before falling in love. I’m all for leafy ambition, but you still need to get through your hallway.

Keeping it happy: Give it generous light, warmth and space. Water to match active growth, drain excess and keep it frost free. Large banana leaves can acquire natural splits and marks. Check the listing and checkout for the available delivery or collection arrangements.

Why choose this one? For a bright, spacious setting where a tall foliage plant can be the feature.

A little support for the roots, too

Falling for a leaf is the easy bit. Now let’s give its roots somewhere decent to live. My Soil Yourself premium dry substrate blend brings together pine bark, sphagnum moss, perlite, vermiculite, worm castings, horticultural grit, LECA, mycorrhizal fungi and seaweed. It’s a 1.15kg compost-free dry blend: you add your own compost and adjust the finished mix using the guide. Lovely leaves need happy roots, brother. We can’t just admire the top half and hope for the best underneath.

I also sell fresh live sphagnum moss, UK sourced, in 600–800g bags, for suitable moss-pole, propagation and terrarium projects. Match the material and moisture level to your plant rather than using one recipe for everything.

Randomly selected bags of moss and Soil Yourself can also contain a You Soiled Gold ticket and mini keepsake. Rewards change quarterly and may include plant discounts, a free plant with an order or money off your next bag. Surprises are not guaranteed; the ticket’s terms and expiry apply.

Buying houseplants online: a few useful answers

Do I have to wait for a live sale to buy?

No, you lovely human. You can order available plants through the website when it suits you. Come to a live sale for the plants, the company and whatever nonsense comes out of my mouth that evening. You don’t have to catch one to shop.

What size plant will I receive?

Have a look at the pot diameter and approximate height on the individual listing. A 6cm pot means a little starter, even if its grown-up ambitions are enormous. The photos show the plant type; colours, markings and leaf counts vary naturally. And if there’s a group in a photo, you’re buying one plant, not secretly adopting the whole gang.

Which one should I choose as a first purchase?

Start with your home, brother. What light have you got? How warm is the spot? Then think about your budget and the plants you love. Cheap doesn’t automatically mean easy. A bright, warm position might suit one of the Syngonium or young Monstera options, depending on the plant. If you’re unsure, send us the one you’re looking at and tell us where it would live. I’d much rather help you choose a good match than see you fall for a leaf that’s going to struggle in that spot.

When are website orders dispatched?

Website orders are normally dispatched within 5–7 working days after ordering; delivery time is additional. Charges and available destinations are shown at checkout. Check the Shipping & Returns page for current details.

Can I collect or visit you in Malvern?

Free collection is available by arrangement. Visits to the Plantaholic Haven must be booked online before travelling. Appointments are Monday–Saturday, 10am–4pm; Sunday is closed.

Your next leaf obsession is waiting

Have another look through the photos, tiny phone people. Which one made you pause? The little Crocodile, your first Thai Constellation, or that Anthurium you’re already imagining in the perfect spot? I love that a plant can do that to us. One beautiful leaf and suddenly we’re curious, excited and paying attention again. Choose something you can give a good home to, then come and enjoy the growing journey with us. There’s plenty here to fall for.

The online shop is there whenever you fancy a browse. Put the kettle on, take your time and have a proper look. I’ll be over here getting far too excited about a leaf. Again.

One love, tiny phone people.Jonny x
